CiCi

Scan a barcode, find out if it is gluten free, and see exactly why.

A gluten-free label checker built for people with celiac disease. Point a phone at a barcode and CiCi answers yes, no or can't tell, highlights the exact words on the ingredient panel that decided it, and cites the rule behind the call. Free, unlimited scans, no diet marketing.

About this Burro

Most gluten apps give a verdict and ask you to trust it. CiCi shows its reasoning: the ingredient that triggered the answer is highlighted in place, and the regulation it relied on is named. That is the difference a celiac shopper cares about, and it is what makes the product shareable in support groups.

Behind the scanner sits a large library of product, ingredient, brand and restaurant pages, 1,095 in the sitemap, each one a search landing page for a question people type every day, such as whether a specific cereal or sauce is safe.

CiCi also has a mascot assistant on the site that can answer questions conversationally, and an image route for photographing an ingredient panel when there is no barcode.

Who it suits

  • A gluten-free food brand that wants to own the trust layer its customers already use
  • A health or nutrition app adding allergen scanning
  • A publisher in the celiac and food-allergy space
